La Laliki Land Sara Bigdeli Shamloo aka SarrSew

Lyrics: How it rose from beneath the soil Where it stretched to reach a point of boil When our eyes were cleared of sweat and tears When we took the time to heal the sore *There appeared a land of clouds of green, of blue, of black, of gold There appeared a land of clouds Light in air and dark in soil* Fire merged with the twinkles in the sky Water reached the pebbles washed them pure When our eyes were cleared of sweat and tears When we took the time to heal the sore *There appeared a land of clouds of green, of blue, of black, of gold There appeared a land of clouds Light in air and dark in soil*

Badzo by Pélagie Alima

Badzo Pélagie Alima

'Badzo is a lament and a revelation Here in Africa it is very difficult for women who do not succeed in giving birth. Generally they do not complain but they suffer. They are women who are rejected in African society. Today with modernism things are camouflaged but it remains a problem. Badzo is just this internal thing that these women never bring out that I tried to make them hear. Because for me the mother is the one who is able to give her love to a child.' Alima 2022, Cameroun Translation of the lyrics: I am a poor person A poor woman No one to whom I matter I have walked so much And I am tired I have crossed rivers, villages, forests and hills But why all this suffering? What do they say? They say you are a witch What do they say? They say you are ugly What do they say? They say you are lazy They say you feed on your children (cannibal)'

The Fallen Woman by Kerstin Pohle / KASSIA

The Fallen Woman Kerstin Pohle / KASSIA

About the music: The Fallen Woman is a hymn for Mary Magdalene who is described in the Bible as a fallen woman. At the same time, the hymn is autobiographical for Kassia herself who lost the opportunity to marry and become empress through her rejection of Emperor Theophilus. According to legend, Theophilus himself added a part of the text in which Eve hides in fear. This part can also be referred ambiguously to Kassia who was hiding from the emperor. Interestingly, Kassia left the part in the hymn. The hymn is still used today.
