Anelisa Stuurman aka ANNALYZER Anelisa’s journey into performing arts started in rural Eastern Cape, South Africa, raised in a small village called Sterkspruit in a musical family where both her parents sang in choirs, Anelisa’s upbringing introduced her to choral, classical and indigenous music from a young age. Her passion for the arts led her to study in Durban, honing her skills on stage in theatrical productions as well as hosting events, performing and recording music under the alias Annalyzer, a pathway into the entertainment industry that has seen her perform and collaborate with artists across the globe. A prominent LGBTI+QA activist who has hosted and performed at numerous Pride events across the country, she also starred in a renowned queer theatre production, Pink Money, alongside Kieron Jina which toured internationally for 2 years. Then in 2019 she collaborated again with Kieron in a production, Rise of the African Queer, which Yogin Sullaphen did the sound design for, a meeting that soon birthed uKhoiKhoi. uKhoiKhoi is a live looping musical performance art showpiece, encompassing multilingual expressions through opera, indigenous chants and praise poetry, using a variety of traditional and contemporary instruments to create their unique afro-futuristic sound they call “indigenous electro”.

About the Music: Hymn to Pelagia refers to a courtesan, actress and dancer in Antioch in the 4th century. According to legend she joined the Christian faith, renounced her worldly life and lived as a man, known as the monk 'Pelagios the Eunuch'. Pelagia is the patron saint of comedians and actors. Badzo is just this internal thing that these women never bring out that I tried to make them hear. Because for me the mother is the one who is able to give her love to a child.' About the music: The Fallen Woman is a hymn for Mary Magdalene who is described in the Bible as a fallen woman. At the same time, the hymn is autobiographical for Kassia herself who lost the opportunity to marry and become empress through her rejection of Emperor Theophilus. According to legend, Theophilus himself added a part of the text in which Eve hides in fear. This part can also be referred ambiguously to Kassia who was hiding from the emperor. Interestingly, Kassia left the part in the hymn. The hymn is still used today. Rümeysa Çamdereli was born on February 21, 1989 in Diyarbakır. She is a Muslim feminist activist, a civil society professional, a musician, and a mother. She became a part of different organizations such as the Muslims Initiative Against Violence Against Women and she is among the founders of Women in Mosques, Reçel Blog (www.recel-blog.com) and Havle Women's Association. She has been producing different songs/themes for some time now. She composed 'Tribute to Kassia '' for this project through the inspiration of her dishwasher. Women are producing and struggling in every part of their lives, here is a sequence of Rümeysa's personal struggle tribute to Kassia.

Anelisa Stuurman: 'I find sound makes music and I am not for rules in art especially creating music (just stay on key). Making music for me is fusing different techniques as a vocalist, bend vocal expectations in every genre, fuse them all together and a song is created with different musical methods. '

About the music: Leaving the wealth of her family derives from the hymns in honour of the martyr St. Christina who was murdered in 200 AD. This hymn praises St. Christina and her attainment of Christian enlightenment after leaving her wealthy family. Kassia lets the angels sing: „The enemy has fallen, defeated by a woman“. Kassia herself came from a wealthy family and left them to found her monastery. About the music: Edessa rejoices is a Hymn to the saints and martyrs Gurias, Samonas and Abibus. According to legend, they worked a miracle for a young maiden from Edessa who was abducted by a Goth while praying at the tomb of the saints. She was buried alive, miraculously rescued by the saints and brought home. The Goth was punished.
